It was the beginning of the „Seventies” – “Samba pa ti” was played on every class- and schoolparty. Dancing blues after this song was just fantastic. Logically I bought the album “Abraxas” – it was the year 1975 – I was 16 years old. The first time I listened to “Black magic woman” – yes, it was MAGICALLY!his kind of music was new to me and and it strongly hits my soul.
11.12.1976 – it was my first Santana Concert in the Eissporthalle Berlin.I still remember that quite well.As the band started, percussion and drums gave the rhythm and the “maestro” was giving sound to his guitar, there was no stopping anymore. The hall bubbled, the audience danced in trance and there was the sweet smell of grass – I felt good! Viva Santana! That evening I still didn`t know how much this music has infected me and how much I was going to follow this magic – till today!
I visited every concert in Berlin, in other cities as well and I enjoyed them to the full. Even staying in the hospital couldn`t keep me back to experience Santana LIVE. 11.05.1989 – Just operated on the Achilles heel, I walked on crutches in the Deutschlandhalle Berlin. It was the Viva Santana! – Tour. 2005.09.2003 – Max-Schmeling-Halle Berlin. It was impossible to miss the event, although I was staying in the hospital.
The “Santana-fever” took hold of me, completely. In the middle of the year 2004 I started gathering vinyl singles (“7”). All available DVDs and Maxi-CDs came along. Although I was listening to much other music as well, it was just the extraordinary music by Santana which has become an important part of my life.
The climax of my passion was a journey to New York. I wanted to see Santana in the legendary Madison Square Garden on the 15th June 2005.Carlos Santana and his band were in top form – a very special concert. During two further events in New York I met Carlos Santana personally – it was an incredible feeling to face a living legend and the absolute idol for myself.
In july 2013 I met him once in person. Before the concert in Munich I hand him a photo book made by me.
A moment I will never forget.
Peace, Love and Happiness!
